An Impossibly Long Day

Brian is away for the whole weekend.  Yes, both Friday and Saturday night.  It's his biannual men's weekend.  That would be cabin in the woods, poker, bonfires, beer, food, no wives and kids weekend.  I don't know how the other wives stand it.

Maybe their children sleep through the night.

Molly's been teething so she always wakes up anymore.  Jane on the other hand has been sleeping through the night.  Of course until last night.  And not just wake up and go back to sleep right away.  Awake for a half hour.  And little Molly woke up at 4:30, brought her into our bed where she does her nightly routine of tossing and turning, but never had the chance to fall back asleep because Jane woke up, wide awake, at 4:50.

I love being up before 5am...says NO ONE!

Well, I wasn't going to let it ruin our morning (though I knew it would ruin our evening- over tired children aren't ever pleasant).

I made a yummy breakfast, banana chocolate chip grilled tortilla.

Five bites in her face changed, and she said that 4 letter word that all moms hate.  Yeah, you know that Y one.  Oh well, I thought her leftovers tasted pretty good.

To recap the rest of the day-
-Jane fell funny on her knee at gymnastics which resulted in her not being able to put much weight on it.  The sight of that actually almost made me pass out.  I didn't know I was that kind of person!    For the next several hours I watched every step she took, stressing over which eventually turned out to be nothing.
-She would not take a nap, even though I laid in bed with her for over an hour.
-4:30pm she was in meltdown city until she finally fell asleep just before 6.
-Molly didn't think putting her to bed once was enough.

And while I was rocking Molly to sleep for the second time tonight, I couldn't help but think how blessed I am to have these two beautiful little girls.  And how grateful I am for a husband who, when home, makes our day seems so much easier!

Welcome Fall

This was our last big summer hurrah- a backyard camp out.  Jane and I had a mommy-daughter sleepover in our little tent.  I love camping.  I love the crisp night air, sweats, and extra blankets.  A family camp out would have been lovely...but out little Molly doesn't do well outside her routine.  By that I mean it would have taken her FOREVER to fall asleep.  We went on three trips this summer where I had to endure hours of her playing around before she would fall asleep.  I love the girl to death but when it's time for bed I am ready to checkout of mommyhood!  Soooo, Molly and daddy did their normal thing while Jane and I did our thing.  Oh, and flashlights are lots of fun :)

What screams September more than picking apples?  Next to hayrides to the pumpkin patch, going to the apple orchard is tops on our list of fall fun.  And who doesn't like dozens of apples for such things as warm apple crisp?

Here's some pics of the girls at the orchard-

And that brings us to school.  Jane went back to school, and boy do those 2 short hours that she is gone fly.  I have all these wonderful intentions to get things done while she's away.  But the reality is, by the time I get home, but Molly down for a quick nap, there's just not much time!  She loves her little school though, which makes me happy.

Lastly, something that's been weighing on me a lot lately is that my baby is not a baby anymore!  Geez Louise!  How does did I let time slip through my fingers?  Our girl is a whopping 15 months!  She's running, climbing up ladders, going down slides, doing somersaults!   Her animal sounds are the cutest.  And she loves to cuddle in your lap with a book.  She loves babies.  She can't sleep without her nuk and her bear.  She loves to eat goldfish crackers and hates to sit down at the table!

 Happy Fall!
